High-net-worth travellers across the UAE face a new reality: the cost of flying private has risen as much as 20 percent, driven by jet fuel prices climbing sharply amid ongoing geopolitical instability, reports CNBC.
Dubai-based Vimana Private Jets recently arranged a US$520,000 charter from Dubai to London — a route that cost US$400,000 just three years ago. CEO Ameerh Naran attributes the entire increase to fuel costs, now averaging US$4.65 per gallon worldwide.
As the global hub for ultra-luxury travel, Dubai's FBO facilities handle thousands of private flights monthly. The emirate's strategic position between Europe, Asia and Africa makes it indispensable for UHNW families — but that convenience now carries a steeper premium. Larger operators have been absorbing some costs to retain clients, but repricing is inevitable. Industry insiders advise booking sooner rather than later, noting that any increases are likely to be sticky even if geopolitical conditions stabilise.
Despite cost headwinds, the sector continues expanding. Private jet flights grew 11 percent globally, and platforms like Elevate Jet are launching app-based booking — bringing Silicon Valley-style disruption to an industry long defined by phone calls and bespoke arrangements.
In a parallel shift, wellness has emerged as the defining status symbol for the world's wealthiest. eMarketer reports that 87 percent of HNWIs actively pursue wellness goals. American Express Platinum now offers a $200 Oura ring credit; Chase Sapphire Reserve provides a $359 Whoop fitness band rebate. For Dubai's elite, the shift from conspicuous luxury to "quiet luxury" — markers of health, vitality and access — is unmistakable.
